SINCE 1870
It all began in 1870, when Mihael and Ana Schiker established the Šiker coachman’s inn. In the barn across the road, where the Farm Museum stands today, livestock rested, ate, and drank. The coachmen quenched their thirst with spirits, apple cider, wine, and spring water, and soon spread the word about the hospitable service and homemade drinks throughout the area. With the drinks came homemade bread, meat, sausages, and lard, and so the inn grew. Their work was continued at the end of the 19th century by Alojzija and Jožef Šiker. Until World War II, the third generation, Alojz and Felicita Šiker, maintained the inn’s reputation. The fourth generation, with the unforgettable Jože and Silva Šiker, laid the foundation of the inn as we know it today. Jože’s passion was wine, particularly the ‘royal’ yellow muscat, which to this day remains the perfect pairing with the house queen, charlotte cake. They were my grandparents. My mother Breda and my father Silvo are the fifth generation. They received many accolades and awards. They also renovated much of the interior, established the wine cellar, the Farm Museum, and a children’s playground.
I am Nataša, the sixth generation, and Šiker inn runs in my blood. I am working hard and planning how to preserve the tradition of the Šiker inn while ensuring its adaptation to modern times, tastes, and the needs of our guests.
Many similar inns have encountered difficulties in these challenging times. We took a risk by investing in the hotel business, which complements the legendary inn perfectly. In the future, I aim to expand the offerings and continue the work of my Šiker ancestors. However, these are personal stories. Our shared story is that at Šiker, you enjoy yourself, get the best value for your money, take home some ‘goodies,’ and remember us fondly, because that way, you’re sure to return.
